On steep <br />slopes, the minimum number of woody plants shall be 600 per acre. <br />(3) For purposes of this Section, herbaceous species means grasses, <br />legumes, and nonleguminous forbs; woody plants means woody shrubs, trees <br />and vines; and ground cover means the area of ground covered by the <br />combined aerial parts of vegetation and the Litter that is produced <br />naturally onsite, expressed as a percentage of the total area of measure- <br />ment. <br />I~ <br />The permit area exceeds the acreage maximum of 40 acres and does <br />not meet the precipitation minimum of 26 inches average annual <br />precipitation set forth in paragraph (d)(1)(2)(3). Consequently, <br />no comments have been addressed to paragraph (d) above. <br />/~~ Section 816.117 Revegetation: Tree and shrub stocking for <br />5 forest land. <br />This Section sets forth forest resource conservation standards for <br />reforestation operations to ensure that a cover of commercial tree <br />species, non-commercial tree species, shrubs or half-shrubs, sufficient <br />for adequate use of the available growing space, is established after <br />surface mining activities. <br />(a) Stocking, i.e. the number of stems per unit area, will be used to <br />determine the degree to which space is occupied by well-distributed, <br />countable trees, shrubs or half-shrubs. <br />816-162 <br />
