EXHIBIT D
Mining Plan
The Tanabe Pit property is a significant commercial deposit of sand and gravel located near the
South Platte River. The permit boundary will encompass approximately 78.9 acres with 59.6
acres being mined. There aze existing mining operations immediately to the north and west of _
this property. To the south and east lie agricultural uses and State Highway 85. ~~l`c ~~ n
The deposit will be dry mined through the use of dewatering trenches and pumps. Initially [he ~
topsoil and overburden will be stripped with scrapers. The overburden will amount to 3
approximately %z million cubic yards. Overburden exists to the depth of approximately 6 feet X71, gaa~
over the entire site. Some of this material will be used for off-site construction needs. All ~ 1
overburden needed for the construction of the liner will remain on-site. The average depth of
gravel is 25 feet.
Mining will progress down to the claystone bedrock. Bedrock is rippable and will be placed and
compacted in the reclaimed slope area surrounding the pit.
Overburden will also be used to fill in the side slopes. With the reclaimed use being a water
storage reservoir, the compacted slopes will prevent seepage of groundwater. The mining face
will be nearly vertical to %z:l slope. Direction of mining will be from the southwest to the
northeast in Phase I and from the northeast to the southwest in Phase II.
When the alluvium is sufficiently dry, front-end loaders will excavate the material and deposit it
on conveyors. The conveyors will transport the material to be processed in an existing DMG
permitted mining site located immediately west of this property site (M-78-052). The conveyor
will cross Brighton Road. In addition, a pipe transporting the water from the mine will be placed
along the conveyor. The pipe goes to an existing permitted area and then discharges the water
into the South Platte River. ~~/~~,`' ~~,,,,~' ~
A portable screen and crusher maybe used to process material within the permit area.
The following is the approximate acreage and time for mining each phase:
Time for Mining
Phase I - 13.2 acres 1.5 years
Phase II - 46.4 acres 3 years
TOTAL 59.6 acres 4.5 years
A water well and associated pump that were used for crop irrigation may be removed throng the ~ •.~
mining process. The property owner owns these items being removed. ><„ui~ - /~.~°` `~~"
U '// I
Overburden that leaves the site will be transported off site by trucks. The material is anticipated
to be used in bridge and road construction in the area.
DMG ! 11 Pervnii
Prtge 5 of 46
