4.3.2 OPERATION PLAN -- LOADOUT
4.3.2.1 Production Methods and Equipment
Although the operation of the coal loadout facility involves no actual
coal production, only transportation, this section [corresponding to
Section 2.05.3(1) in the MLRB Regulations], is used to provide a
general description of its operation. Drawing D-2-2 should be
referenced to follow the discussion.
The facility has three major components:
° a truck dump and a 30-inch conveyor to the loadout
building,
° a loadout building situated to load rail cars through
• one drawdown point as cars pass beneath the hopper, and
° a rail yard consisting of athree-track, crescent-shaped
arrangement with a warning shed for the switch yard
locomotive.
Coal is hauled from the mine to the truck dump during two 8-hour
shifts. Each truck carries 25 to 30 tons of coal per trip; and with
the roundtrip taking almost 1 hour, approximately 12 trucks made the
trip daily.
The truck dump is located at the edge of the plateau to take advantage
of natural ground contours. Trucks turn and back up to dump their
loads into a 60-ton hopper. As the coal is .dumped, spray bars spray
the coal with water to minimize dust. Coal is fed out of the bottom
of the hopper onto Conveyor C-1 (refer to Drawing D-2-2) at 500 tons
per hour. Conveyor C-1 carries the coal 2,057 feet from the truck
dump to the top of the loadout building.
4-26
