• 3.2 SUMMARY OF QUANTITATIVE DATA
Ouantitetive data on cover, herbaceous production and woody plant density collected in the study
area end the Seneca I I Mine reference areas are summarized in Table 23.
3.3 SAMPLE ADEQUACY
Statistical adequacy of the quantitative cover ,production, and woody plant density samples taken
in the study area baseline studies are set forth in Tabla 24. As can be seen, there were several
cases where the prescribed maximum number of samples were insufficient to cause
demonstration of adequate sample size.
3.4 PLANT SPECIES LIST
All plant species observed during the field studies conducted in July and early August 1987 ere
listed in Table 25. Listed for each species is lifeform, provenance (native or introduced), and
• the vegetation type in which they occur. A total of 167 specie; are included in Table 25 wish
the lifeform species breakdown es follows: 12 annual end biennial forbs, l annual greminoid, 91
perenniei forbs, 35 perenniei graminoids, 23 shrubs, 2 trees, and 3 mosses end lichens (note:
no attempt io thoroughly inventory cryptogamic species was made). Of the 167 plants observed,
all but 12 were native. The only plant present that is classified in Colorado es a "prohibited
noxious" weed is Cana thistle (Cirsium ervense). Curly dock (Rumex, crisous), pennycress
(Thlespi ervense), and buckhorn plantain (Planteao lanceolate) are species present that are
classified as "restricted noxious" weeds in Colorado.
3.5 PLANT SPECIES OF SPECIAL CONCERN
None of the plant species observed in the study area are included on lists of designated or
candidate threatened or endangered species maintained by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
(1983) nor were any of the observed species present on the list of State Species of Special
Concern maintained by the Colorado Natural Heritage Inventory (Colorado Dept. of Natural
Resources, CNHI 1986).
•
-24-
