Biomavs production in this well-watered vegetation type (Table 10) we<, not found wanting;
total production everegetl 401.7 gm / sq m. (35801b /acre). Nebraska sedgy (213.3 gm /
sq.m.) comprised slightly over half of this total, while that attributable io beaked sedge (181.8
gm / sq.m.) war most of the remainder.
3.1.4 MOUNTAIN BRUSH
Yegetation within this type is identified by dominance of serviceberry and Ciambel oak in varying
relative proportions (Figure 6). Of the 74.0 total vegetation cover (Table 1 1 ), 51.2 cover
was attributable to shrubs, the most abundant of which were Oambei oak (17.4 cover),
mountain snowberry (15.4 cover), end Saskatoon serviceberry (12 4 ~ cover). Minor
shrubs with measurable cover included big sagebrush (Artemisie tridentata), true mountain
mahogany (Cercocerous montenus), chokecherry, antelope bitterbrush (Purshia tridenieta),
and Woods rose.
• Perennial forbs comprised 1 1.8~ cover, the largest contributions to which were made by
western yarrow, errowleaf balsamroot (Balsamorhiza sagittata),ona-flower halianihella
(Helianthella uniflora), and tailcup lupine (Luoinus caudatus). Of the other perennial forbs
present, the more abundant included netileleaf giant-hyssop (Agastarhe urticifolia), littleleaf
pussytoes (Antennaria microohvlla), gray aster (Aster glaucodes), an unidentified aster
(probably A.chilensis), segolily (Calochorius nuttallii),showy daisy (Erio°ron soeciosus),
white-flowered peavine, and Oreat Basin nemophila (Nemophila 6reviflora).
Perennial greminoid cover was 10.4; the major components of this cover were Y,entucky
bluegrass (3.8~ cover), sun sedge (1.8 $cover), and Agessiz bluegrass (1.2 !5 cover). Other
species locally presentincluded bluebunch wheatgrass (Agroovron soicatum), slender
wheaigrass (Agropvron try^hvcaulum), pumpelly brome, wooly brome (Bromoosis lanetipes),
and green needlegrass (Stipa viridule).
As is typical in vegetation dominated by perennial vegetation in vi~rous condition, annual and
biennial forbs end annual grasses are only sparsely present (combined cover of 0.6~).
C
Total herbaceous production (Table 12) in the Mountain Brush vegetation type was 87.4 om /
-14-
