The 200 foot separation from significant man-made structures is excessive for the relatively shallow,
proposed excavation, the planned mining and closure slope angles, and the relatively level grade beyond
the slopes. In our opinion the minimum setback from the edge of the excavation for utilities, drainage
easements, access roads, and public right-of-ways should be a minimum of 30 feet. With this 30 feet
setback distance, a potential slope of 2.75:1 (horizontal to vertical) would exists from the toe of the
deepest portion of the pit to the closest man-made structure. Following closure, the slope would be
3.75:1 lapproximately 15 degrees).
This completes the geologic evaluation of the proposed Railhead Pit. Any questions may be directed
to Senior Geotechnical Engineer, Gary Hamacher, or Geologist, Lee Eversole.
Respectfully Submitted,
Western Color o T//esting, Inc.
~c~i ~ ~.aeC~/
Lee F.
