1 <br /> <br />i~ <br /> <br />GEOLOGIC EVALUATION <br />OF THE <br />RAILHEAD PIT <br />GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO <br />1 <br />,' <br /> <br />,I <br /> <br />1 <br />,I <br />'~ <br />', <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br />As requested, the Geology and Geotechnical Divisions of Western Colorado Testing, Inc. IWCT), <br />have prepared this geological evaluation of the Railhead Pit, to be located in the Railhead Industrial <br />Park, Grand Junction, Colorado, for United Companies, Inc. This proposed pit is located just west of <br />Grand Junction, north of the Colorado River, and east of the Interstate 70 interchange with <br />Highways 6 and 50. The River Road Gravel Pit, also owned by United Companies, is eastwardly <br />adjacent to the planned Railhead Pit. United Companies plans to utilize this proposed tract for <br />excavation of the river deposited alluvium beneath the upper layer of silty clay. <br />The proposed Railhead Pit will encompass a portion of the NWtla of Section 6, Township 1 South, <br />Range 1 West, the SWtla, SWtla, of Section 31, Township 1 North, Range 1 West, and the SEtla of <br />Section 36, Township 1 North, Range 2 West, all in the Ute Meridian. It also covers a portion of the <br />NEtla of Section 14, Township 11 South, Range 101 West of the 6th Principal Meridian. <br />The Railhead Industrial Park was first designed for commercial use in the early 1980's. Its <br />boundaries were laid out by Paragon Engineering, Inc. Railhead Pit will consist of the south one-half <br />(approximate) of the Railhead Industrial Park. Utilities exist on a portion of this property, as does a <br />railroad spur on a twenty foot easement. One paved road --- Railroad Avenue --- skirts the northern <br />boundary of the proposed tract. Concrete curb and gutters are in tact. <br />1 <br /> <br />
