i' • •
1
t MINING PLAN
The purpose of this application is to secure a Reclamation Permit
for a Regular 112 Mining Operation in order to conduct gravel
extraction, processing and storage operations at a surface sand and
gravel mine.
The property that is the subject of this application consists of
90.3 acres in total, with 75.3 acres to be affected with mining
activities.
t Activities that will be conducted at this site are those that are
typical to open pit sand and gravel operations, including removal
' and storage of topsoil and overburden soil, and extraction
crushing, screening and stockpiling of gravel using customary
surface mining techniques.
' 'Phe subject site is immediately west of United Companies' River
Road Gravel Pit (M-91-136-, separated by the Appleton Drainage
Ditch that is owned by the Grand Junction Drainage District. It is
' the intention of the applicant to construct a bridge across this
ditch and to haul or convey raw pit run gravel from the proposed
Railhead Pit to the River Road Gravel Pit where it will be
' processed into graded construction aggregates and various specialty
gravels. These processed gravels will be stored at the River Road
Pit and dispersed from that site. It is anticipated that the
greatest part of the gravel will be handled in this manner,
' however, it is possible that some crushing and storing of processed
aggregate base coarses will occur on-site and will be situated on
the floor of the pit. The crushing and stockpile areas will move
' from east to west as mining progresses.
The development of the mine will commence with the removal of the
' topsoil and overburden soil from the eastern most two acres. This
soil will be used to construct the earthen berm that is depicted on
the Mining Plan Nap. Approximately 20,000 cubic yards of soil will
be required for this purpose. The berm will remain in place for
the duration of mining activities at the site. At the conclusion
of mining activities, the berm will be removed and the soil will be
used for backfilling of excavated areas, and for plating slopes
' with topsoil.
After the soil has been removed from the east portion of the site,
t gravel extraction will begin at that point, in that the procedure
described above will be used. Mining operations will the proceed
from east to west in increments of approximately 10 acres at a
time.
' As mining proceeds west, the overburden soil will be placed and
compacted in the northern half of the excavated area for
' 3
1
