Site 5MF2661: Site Description
The site consists of a single structure, a collapsed one-room log
cabin measuring 15'5" N/S x 13'6" EW. The cabin was constructed of aspen
logs, with milled lumber door and window frames. The roof and floor were
also constructed of boards. Small glass shards below one of the window
openings indicates glass panes in these openings. The structure is
mostly collapsed and many of the logs are in a rotted condition. The
walls in the NW corner of the building stand five logs tall. The corners
of the structure were constructed by notching the logs. Wire nails are
seen in the door and window frames, and they were used in securing
smaller wedge-shaped pieces of aspen used for chinking between the logs.
The doorway is located on the NE corner, facing east; windows are present
on the north and south walls.
Although the ground surface west of the structure has been dis-
turbed, these are no indications of other structures or features. Nor
was any trash observed about the area; however, visibility of the ground
surface is obscured in some of the area by a dense growth of tall
grasses. The poorly preserved remains of a wooden shelving unit and
sawhorse are present within the structure.
The site has the appearance of having been a seasonal or temporary
• shelter, probably utilized in conjunction with grazing. There are stock
pond developments upstream and farther downstream from the cabin, but
their contemporaneity with the structure is uncertain.
