levels in well 81-03A slightly declined with a questionable second quarter water level. <br />Water levels show an overall gradual decline over the last few years in well GLUX-1 likely <br />due to less precipitation the last five years. <br />Figure A-7 presents water levels for wells GF-1, GF-7 and P-8. These wells are <br />completed in the 20 Mile, HI backfill and 3rd White Sandstone aquifers, respectively. Well <br />GF-1 was a flowing well but water levels have declined over the last five years to below <br />the top of the casing. Water levels in this deep aquifer would not be expected to quickly <br />respond to either a low or high precipitation event. As with GF-5, well GF-7 (both <br />completed in the HI backfill) gradually declined in water level, likely due to the lower <br />precipitation. The larger storage value in the unconfined backfill aquifer may dampen the <br />effects of dry and wet years. The recovery from the A pit mining in this area may be <br />complete. The water levels in well P-8 were fairly steady in 2002. <br />Water levels for wells GF-2 and GF-4 are presented in Figure A-8. Water levels <br />in well GF-2 have been quite stable for a number of years. The U aquifer lies beneath the <br />coal horizons. A large rise in water level in well GF-4 was observed in the last half of 1999 <br />after the repair of the casing on September 24, 1999. Water levels declined in 2002 in <br />well GF~ to very near the top of the well casing. Mining occurred south of well GF-4 in <br />the early 1480's and is expected to limit water-level changes in the HI aquifer near well <br />GF-4. Water levels in the upgradient unconfined backfill aquifer do not fluctuate as much <br />as the confined HI aquifer. It is also possible that the backfill spring in Johnson Gulch may <br />be limiting the head in the backfill aquifer, <br />Figure A-9 presents water levels for wells GF-3 (KLM aquifer) and Coy (alluvium). <br />The water levels in well GF-3 were overall fairly steady in 2002 except for one <br /> <br />2-6 <br />
