• S /~ T~ b / D ADDENDUM 10-1 -iii iiiiuiiiiiii iii 999 Doc Date:1 211 112 0 0 1 Description of Vegetation for Pond 008 Permit Area The native vegetation associated with the 008 sediment pond permit extension area is similar to the native vegetation on the adjacent Seneca II Mine Permit Area. The dominant connnunities occurring on the proposed permit extension area are the mixed brush and upland sagebrush types. Small inclusions of aspen and mountain meadow also occur in this area. Two small areas of sandstone rock outcrop occur in the eastern portion of the proposed permit extension area. A detailed discussion of the mixed brush, upland sagebrush and aspen vegetation types are contained in Tab 10 Vegetation Survey of the current Seneca II Mine Permit. The mountain meadow vegetation type occurs sporadically within the general area in drainages that receive natural subirrigation. Also benefiting these areas is the relatively cool mountain climate and the amount of snow cover that may remain till relatively late in the spring. Species observed on the mountain meadow type include Nebraska and oval head sedge, Baltic rush, bluejoint reedgrass, slender wheatgrass, redtop, marsh marigold, dandelion, false hellebore, Rocky Mountain iris, herbaceous cinquefoil, and sporadic occurrence of silver sagebrush. The dominance of sedges, rushes and grasses give the site its characteristic meadow appearance. Vegetative groundcover was estimated at 70-80%. The SCS has estimated that this site will produce approximately 3000 lbs per acre total annual production in a normal year. The following lists the acreages of each vegetation type within the proposed permit extension area and the acreages to be affected in each type.
