SECTION 7.0 Miscellaneous
•
7.1 Vegetation Monitoring on Trapper Reclaimed Lands (2001)
Extensive vegetation monitoring on reclaimed Trapper rangelands was accomplished during the 2001
field season. Routine vegetation monitoring was completed on 621 acres in Ashmore, Derringer,
Flintlock and Hawken pits. A total of 170 50-meter fransects were monitored. Vegetation parameters
sampled included ground cover, species composition and woody stem density.
Phase II bond release sampling occurred on 593 acres of reclaimed croplands in Ashmore, Browning
and Colt Pits. A bond release application (SL-3) was submitted to CDMG in September 2001.
The first year of Phase III bond release sampling occurred on 407 acres of reclaimed croplands in
Ashmore, Browning and Colt pits (these same areas were also sampled for Phase II bond release),
and on 1,481 acres of reclaimed rangelands in Ashmore, Colt, Derringer and Enfield pits. IME (Kent
Crofts) from Yampa, Colorado conducted the Phase III sampling. A preliminary report of sample
results was presented to CDMG for review in January 2002.
Vegetation monitoring planned for 2002 will include routine sampling of more recently recaimed
rangelands and the second year of a Phase III bond release sample program on older reclaimed
rangelands and croplands.
7.2 Grazing of Reclaimed Lands
No cattle grazing occurred on Trapper recaimed lands during 2001, nor is grazing planned for 2002.
T.3 2002 Revegetation Seed Mixes
Section 3.6.3.5 of Trapper's Mining and Reclamation permit requires that the Division be notified of
the seed mixtures proposed to be used each year. Tables 7-1 through 7-5 give the 2002 proposed
mixtures.
7.4 Dertinger Pit Interseeding Project
Table 7-5 is new this year and includes an interseeding mix to be used in the most recent reclaimed
rangelands in Derringer Pit. Parcels recaimed from 1997 to 2000, encompassing 123.0 acres, are
proposed to be interseeded in Fall 2002 with a mixture of shrubs and non-aggressive forbs.
Interseeding is proposed because vegetation sampling during 2001 showed that shrub density in this
area was less than the 400-stems/acre standard. The forbs are included in an attempt to improve
overall plant community diversity.
To facilitate successful interseeding, some portions of this Derringer Pit reclamation area will be
treated with herbicide to reduce plant competition. Herbicide will be applied in strips and blocks during
the spring/summer of 2002, wherein all plant growth will be killed. Areas treated will constitute less
than 10% of the 123.0 acres to be interseeded.
7.5 Trapper Mine Facilities
In 2001, no changes were made to Trapper Mine facilities.
•
[DMGW1VEGtatl7-0[
