IX. E~CHIBIT H -WILDLIFE INFORbIATION
The land surrounding the Eas[ 3'" S[reet Operation is largely a miz of pastureland and ligh[
industry with the Cache la Poudre River [o the south. The proposed mine itself consists o[ a
' highly disturbed former feedlot. The site contains rela[ively li[tle cover or suitable habitat
area.
Wildlife present in the area are ducks, geese. muskrat, beaver, mittk, rodents (Norway rats.
deer and house mice), mule and white-[ailed deer, and bald eagles. Species typical of a
' streambank environment may be seen in the area due to the presence of the Cache La Poudre
River. Bald eagles (Federal Threatened Species) hun[ in the river corridor, however, due to
' sensibly planned riparian setbacks, the assessed impact to wildlife is minor.
' Species will become conttned to an `approximately 150 ft riparian buffer zone along the river
as mining progresses. Proposed mitigation is to enhance areas surrounding the affected lands
during reclamation, par[icularly the preserved trail corridor.
Loss of trees will be minimal. The applicant has designed a mining plan that creates a trail
' corridor to preserve a majori[y of the exis[ing [tees. Lone trees scattered thoughout the area
to be mined will, as much as prac[ical, be dragged into nearby tree stands that will be
' preserved [o enhance ground habita[.
Per ivlined Land Reclamation regulations, a iV(ine Land Wildlife Questionnaire was sen[ to the
' DOW. Copies of the questionnaire submi[tal and DOW Wildlife Statement follows.
1

1

1 1. PHI II bI ~'S,_IIIM1i lilrrlcN,_i~,'.'ICi nnl~n:~nd Jiw
ll
