I. INTRODUCTION
' CAMAS Colorado. [nc., d.b.a..Aggreeate Industries -West Central Region, Inc: (CAMAS)
proposes to develop a surface sand and gravel mining operation on approximately 70 acres of
' land in Greeley, Colorado. The property is presently locared immediately south of East 8"'
Street, in the City of Greeley, Weld County, Colorado. CAMAS is submitting a State of
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) Regular (l 12) Mining and Reclamation
' Permit application in order to commence future mining activities on the property. This
document was prepared by Haley Sc Aldrich. Inc. on behalf of CAIv[AS.
'
A Colorado Division of Wildlife (BOW) Wildlife Questionnaire was comple[ed and presented
' to the DOW. Present vegetation at the site consists of very few trees and shrubs located
l
d
hi
h f
h
h
d
f
d
h
C
h
L
P
Ri
b
h
ver, w
a
ong t
e
ac
e
a
re
c
orms t
e sout
ern
oun
e property, an
ou
ary o
t
along East 8'" Street and Ash Avenue[, which form the northern and western boundaries.
' respectively. The remainder of the property consists of former cattle feed lots.
' The site contains appro<imately S.S feet of manure and overburden soils overlying
approximately 60 fr of sand and gravel alluvium, overlying sandstone and siltstone units of
' the Laramie Formation. CAfvLAS proposes to mine the property following one of the [wo
possible conditions; I) leaving Ogilvy Ditch in-place or, 2) relocating the ditch to the eastern
boundary of the property. Both conditions will consist of tour phases of mining. The
' applicant is seeking permitting for the entire site. Mining will be accomplished by dry
minim techniques for the upper 30 feet (ft) of sand and gravel, then wet mining techniques,
which include dragline and windrow, to [he top of bedrock. The mined material will be
transported by conveyor to the proposed processing plant located on-site along Ash Avenue.
' Wet mining will protect water levels in any nearby alluvial wells and the water ri
associated with rhe~iakbacina properties will be preserved throueh development of a
_.
Substitute Supply Plan wi[h the State Engineer's Office. Based on [he proposed mining
technique, no negative impacts m the Cache La Poudre River are anticipa[ed.
Proposed reclama[ion will consis[ of either an open water lake or water storaoe. Both options
will consist of revegeta[ed shorelines and a trail corridor adjacent to the river. Reclamation
' will be concurrent with minine and will include revegetation with native grasses as well as
trees and shrubs along the shoreline. Slopes have been designed at 3: I (H: V) to minimize
' erosion.
' ~, I'ItUll i'l'1'll bi ~~m.;l•. tlmcle}yeuuu~¢y,eJ J,x
