For <br />example, coal haulage will not normally begin until about 7:00 A.M., which would <br />preclude pre-dawn road kills. Truck drivers, both NCC's and contractors', will be <br />advised that most nighttime road kills can be avoided by (1) being most watchful <br />from sunset to 3 hours after sunset (the most critical big game road kill time period) <br />for eyeshlne next to and on the highway, and (2) slowing down when eyeshine is <br />observed. - -_-. - - - J -_ -- <br />• The Rienau No. 2 (G-Seam) Mine has been in operation intermittently <br />since 1965, and the Northern No. 1 (FF-Seam) Mine (still under construction) has <br />been operated as an exploration operation since mid-1978. The miners at the <br />Rienau No. 2 (G-Seam) Mine report no change is mule deer migration patterns <br />through the Curtis Creek Valley Corridor. The miners report that elk, amore <br />human-sensitive species, now migrate through the corridor higher on the steep <br />slopes above the Rienau No. 2 (G-Seam) Mine in response to the increased human <br />activity at the mine. <br />'Ehe migration is primazily north-south <br />paralleling the highway rather than east-west crossing the highway. <br />All fencing at the Meeker Area Mines mill be according to BLM approved <br />design which permits big game migration but excludes sheep and cattle from the <br />• areas of the surface facilities.
