If it is in <br />error, rotate the chart in a clockwise direction, by inserting <br />a screwdriver or coin into the slotted drive in the center <br />of the chart face, until the correct time is indicated. If <br />the sampler is started with a clock switch, the correct time <br />for the recorder chart is the starting time on the clock switch. <br />5. with an eyedropper put a small amount of ink into <br />the hole in back of the pen tip. <br />6. Turn on sampler (never turn on the Sampler unless a <br />filter is in place because the transducer and recorder may be <br />damaged), and observe long enough to determine whether the <br />transducer and recorder are operating properly. <br />7. Turn off sampler and set the clock switch for <br />• correct start and stop times. <br />4.2.3 Routine Flow Rate Check - Record the initial and final <br />flow-rate readings for each sample in the log book maintained <br />with the sampler. <br />After each calibration, average the first four initial <br />flow-rate measurements. Future initial flow rates deviating <br />more than ± 10 percent from this average should be investi- <br />gated. If the change has been gradual over a period of time, <br />a calibration is required. <br />S4hen large deviations occur between successive samples, <br />t:.e operator should wait 5 minutes and make an additional <br />reading. If tr.e second reading falls within ± 10 percent of <br />the average, continue normal operation. If the second reading <br />falls out of bounds, (1) check the line voltage and/or (2) <br />replace the filter. A calibration check is :fade if neither <br />of t.`.e above checks identifies the trouble. Continue normal <br />• operations if the calibration check is satisfactory or perform <br />a complete calibration if the check is unsatisfactory. Samp- <br />lers equipped with a continuous recorder should be observed <br />for at least 5 minutes before recording the initial flow rate. <br />
