For every rock face along I-70 in the State of Colorado, the author could create similar
hypothetical cases and do similar calculations showing that vibrations induced by loaded
transport trucks in adjacent rocks walls with intensities in the 0.05 in/s range will cause
every slope to fail. They have not all failed and they will not all fail.
CONCLUSION
Having fairly evaluated and addressed all of the concerns expressed in the letters from
neighbors to the proposed quarry, the author still firmly believes that the expected levels of
vibration produced by mechanical equipment at the Red Shale Quarry will not trigger rock
falls. Moreover, when a future rock fall does occur, hopefully many years from now, it will
almost certainly be caused by normal weathering forces and environmental conditions like
hydrostatic perched water that create static forces much greater than those caused by very
low intensity vibrations with relatively frequencies.
Respectfully submitted,
~°- ~~
Gordon Revey
REVEY Associates, Inc.
