1/89 <br /> �1 A3e--Clapper very stony loam, 12 to 25 percent slopes . This deep, <br /> •./ well drained soil is on mountainside slopes . It formed in residuum <br /> from glacial till derived dominantly from Basalt and mixed sources. <br /> The native vegetation is mainly pinyon pine and juniper, with galleta, <br /> and wheatgrass . Elevation is 5,600 to 7, 100 feet. The average annual <br /> precipitation is 12 to 15 inches, the average annual air temperature <br /> is 46 to 52 degrees F, and the average frost—free period is 100 to 150 <br /> days . <br /> Typically , the surface layer is brown very stony loam about 3 <br /> inches thick . The upper 9 inches of the subsoil is brown very stony <br /> loam. The next 14 inches of the ,subsoil is very pale brown very <br /> _cobbly loam. The lower part to a depth of 60 inches is light <br /> yellowish brown very cobbly loam. <br /> Included in this unit are small areas of Barx loam, soils similar <br /> • to Barx which have 20 to 35 percent basalt cobbles and stones on the <br /> surface or in the profile , and soils which lack developed subsoil <br /> layers . <br /> Permeability of the Clapper soil is moderate . Available water <br /> capacity is low. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. <br /> Runoff is rapid , and the hazard of water erosion is high . <br /> gentative— subject to revision <br /> .£_{.
