We in this <br />azea are literally saturated with gravel pits owned and operated by either Rio Grande <br />County, Southway Constuctioa, and now, Asphalt Constructors. For example, I mite <br />west of my property is a gravel pit/batch plant/asphalt plant owned/operated by Rio <br />Grande Cotmty, t/4 mite west of my home is a gravel pit awned/aperated by Southway <br />Construction, 1/2 mile east of my home is a gravel pit owned/opcrated by Rio Grande <br />County, and now, 112 mile north of my home is a gravel pit, batch plant/asphalt plant and <br />a cement plant operation being set up by Asphalt Constructors, Inc. Scattemd among <br />these gravel pit operatians aze many single-family dwellings occupied by yoring families, <br />older families, and in some instances, ill and very aged couples. <br />A group of neighbors in this area have been fighting ACI and this gravel pit fur nexrfy <br />two years now, for all of the usual and standard reasons such as tre{]ic; pmpe:rty values, <br />safety, etc etc. A Conditional Use Permit application was initially dcni~d by the County <br />Commissioners in the year 2000, however, ACf made aplrlicatirnl again iii 2(.101, this time <br />succcssfnlly, despite the protests afsomc 60 neighbmrs; landn~;mcr~~ wld re~:idenis ofthc <br />immediate area. <br />In addition to asking your olTice to consider this letter of objccfioo, l would ask that you <br />try to answer sume yuesliuns fur me: <br />1.
