It cures we!I and can be used fcr ~.vinter forag, <br />Western Wheatgrass can grc~.v in pure sands, but mare often is found mixed with other grasses. <br />VARIETIES: <br />Arriba is acool-season, seed forming, perennial grass. ~t ^ccurs naturally on loam to clay soils at <br />elevations from 3,500 to ; C,50C feet. <br />Barton wasdeveloped cccperatively by the Kansas Agricultural experiment Station andthe Soil Conser- <br />vation Service. Originating from afield collection made by Sharp3ros. Seed Company it is a plant which <br />forms rhizomes and also ~ leafy growth for forage. It can be used for pasture, hay and range seedings, <br />alone or in mixtures with c:her grasses. It has also been used for conservation plantings. <br />Flintlock is a forage variety that is boih winter hardy and droue~.: ;olerant. Widely used by conservation- <br />ists its sod is deep, helping ~t survive in areas requiring drouent iclerant plants. It is used for dry land hay <br />production and vegetative cover on roadsides and in parks. <br />Native is acool-season, scd-Forming grass that s widely sed fcr pastures and hay. It is excellent for <br />erosion control, but is slo:v ;c ~jevelop from seed. Native VVesterr. Wheatgrass is drought resistant and <br />moderately tolerant to an alkaline soil. <br />Rodan was released by the rlani Materials Station and the Agricultural Research Station at Bismarck ar. <br />Mandar, North Dakota. It is strongly rhizomous. which allows -or light sod to form even under dry land <br />conditions. Rodan is oarticuiarily well suited for North Dakota.
