(e) Reclamation activities will begin as soon as we begin stripping the pit. First we will strip the
topsoil from approximately 8-10 acres. The topsoil will be stockpiled separately. Then we will remove the
overburden placing as much as possible on the I.2 acre overburden stockpile site and re-grading the l.2 acre
site to near final grade. Topsoil will then be place on [he site, and if time permits, seeding will also be done.
This work will occur in February or March 1997 depending on the issuance of permits and weather. As
discussed in the Mining Plan, our reason for including the l.2 acre overburden stockpile area is to provide an
initial site for placing overburden to preclude double handling of overburden and allow a more controlled
phasing of the mining and reclamation activities. When we complete the construction of the highway project,
we will reclaim as much open area as possible. We expect that a plant and futished materials stockpile site of
approximately 5 acres will remain. In addition, there will be stockpiles of both topsoil and excess overburden
on site. The stockpiles of topsoil and excess overburden will be seeded. We expect that all grading work
associated with the partial reclamation of the initial development of the pit will be done by Fall 1997.
Thereafter, mining and reclamation will take place as market demands require. It will be our plan to limit
disturbances and to reclaim the disturbed lands as we go. We plan to follow the same approach to mining and
reclamation as we will perform in the initial development. The one exception being that overburden removed
from newly stripped areas will be placed on previously mined or affected areas i.e. plant and stockpile areas.
(i) The estimated periods of time for reclamation will be one year following stripping
done for mining. Some exception in time will occur for plant and stockpile areas.
(ii) The size of each area to be reclaimed will range between 3-5 acres. Reclamation will
follow the direction of mining and will generally move from north to south.
(iii) The first phase of the reclamation will be to re-grade the 1.2 acre overburden
stockpile site. The second phase will include re-grading as much of the initial disturbance as possible.
Depending on the amount of finished product stockpiles we may be able to re-grade up to 5 acres. Therefore
6.2 acres would be under reclamation. Thereafter, mining and reclamation will take place as market demands
require. It will be our plan to limit disturbances and to reclaim the disturbed lands as we go. We plan to follow
the same approach to mining and reclamation as we plan for the initial development. The one exception being
that overburden removed from newly stripped areas will be placed on previously mined or affected areas i.e.
plant and stockpile areas.
(t) Descriptions as required:
(i) Slopes for the most part will be graded at 4:1 and 5:1. No reclaimed slopes will be
steeper[han 3:1.
(ii) Seeding will be done in accordance with the recommendations from the Natural
Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) dated October 11, 1996. (See Attached Exhibit T) Seed will be placed
using a seed drill or similar seeding equipment. When seeding work occurs, we will place the seed after mid-
Octoberand before May 1.
(iii) No fertilizer is recommended by the NRCS.
(iv) See the recommendation of the NRCS in Exhibit I.
(v) Topsoil will be placed in one lift 3[i" deep over all areas of the affected land.
