Refer
CAMAS Colorado, Inc.
3605 S. Teller Street
Lakewood, CO 80235
Re: Proposed 104th/Platte
River Gravel Mining
(LSC #981830)
Dear Mike:
We have now completed a traffic impact analysis of your proposed gravel operation to be located
along both sides of the Platte River and south oC 104th Avenue in Adams County, Colorado.
Figure 1, enclosed, illustrates the site location and its various land parcels relative to the
surrounding roadway system. Primary site access is planned along Brighton Road just south of
100th Avenue. The facility's processing plant and scales will be located within Parcel "C" with
a conveyor to be constructed across the Platte River for import of materials from the west side
(Parcel "D") of the site. A secondary service access is planned along Brighton Road at the south
end of Parcel "C", and intermittent access for delivery of Parcel "D" overburden materials is
planned along McKay Road south of 100th Avenue 4I 104th Avenue east of McKay.
Figure 1 also illustrates peak-hour turning movement tragic counts at several key intersections
on the perimeter of the project site. In addition, Figure 2 illustrates mid-morning and mid-
afternoon turning movement counts at three key intersections along 96th Avenue (printouts of
all count data is enclosed).
Roadw
As previously indicated, primary site access is planned along Brighton Road south of 100th
Avenue, whereas secondary overburden materials access will be along McKay Road or 104th
Avenue. Brighton Road, which somewhat parallels the west side oC I-76/US 85, is a two-lane
route which serves as access for several industrial land uses along its route. It is posted with a
35 mph speed limit and has Stop signs controlling traIIic onto both 96th and 104th Avenues.
96th Avenue is a key, two-lane access link between McKay Road/Monaco on the west and the
nearby I-76 interchange. It is controlled by an east facsng Stop sign at Monaco and is posted with
a 30 mph speed limit. 104th Avenue is an important east/west arterial route throughout
Denvers northern suburbs. In the vicinity of the site, its cross-section provides for one lane in
each direction plus leg-turn lanes at the Brighton Road and McKay Road intersections. 104th
speed limits are posted at 50 and 35 mph west and east of the Platte River, respectively.
