The proposed operation is located northeast of I3rockenridgcin the 5\van River Valley, an urea.
previously disturbed by dredge mining [or gold in the early to mid 1900s. Our comments will focus in two
areas • orrorsklari[iwlions in the application and the reclamatiou plrn.
Errura/Clnrificntions
Primary Present band Use: Tl:e application fndicatcs that the Primary present land use is industrial
commercial. This is inaccurate. The area has essentially beeo undisturbed ante the dredge mlaing ended.
Tho current condition is dredge rock intersparcodwitb the Swan River, associatedwelland pockets end upland
vcgctation. Using the calegoriesincludcd in the application, the present land ass is more accura(c)y described
as a wmbiuation o[ wildlife habitat, rcctealion and forestry.
Nluvial Gravel Deposiu: 'Ihc application steles that atluvialgravcl deposits arc a typicalnatural ground cover
in this area, it is true that dredge rock is the predominant material within the proposed mining area. 'Ihe
prcdotninanl an total ground cover in the area would bo a mix o[ upland, riparian and wetland vcgctation,
typical of a high mountain valley. this is a key point in our comments on the reclamation plan.
County Road G: Tltc application states that County Road G is paved. County Road 6 is a gravid surface: road
ranging from 20 to 2G feet wide. 't'raffic on the road in the vicinity of the mining area is predominantly
recreation oriented. The road pmvidos access to extensive public lands, four whwl drive roads and trails in
the upper S\van Valley. Access for snowmobiles is the primary winter use o[ the road. 't'he multitude of users
on this road presents conflicts on a road that the County is currently struggling W maintain adcquatcly. 7hcsc
conflicts will bt: cxacefialedwilh this proposal.
Wetlands: Thoapplia:tionindicatesthatnominingordislurbancewilloxurinjurisdictionelwctlands. Mike
Cla[[ey with the (:orps of Tngineers Grand )unction office has inspected tiro site. The Corps Grand )unction
office has not received a copy of the proposed plan.
