Mayo and Associates, LC
~~
~~
I~
I
In July 2003 an exploratory horizontal borehole HDH 16 penetrated the 14 HG Fault
about 2,000 feet south of 22HG XC32. The 14HG Fault was crossed in 22HG XC 32
during mined development work the 22 HG in August 2003. Groundwater inflow was
100 gpm and declined to 35.
Each of the fault-related groundwater inflows is the result of pressure release from
hydraulically distinct groundwater system associated with individual fault-related damage
zones (Mayo and Associates. 1998; Mayo and Koontz, 2000). The pazallel damage zones
are about 2,000 feet apart. The general absence of grotu~dwater inflows from the coal
seams or mudstone overlying the B Seam indicate that the Rollins Sandstone waters aze
not in hydraulic communication with coal seams Located above the B Seam.
Evaluation of Potential Groundwater Inflows 56
Associated witL E Seam Mining,
West Elk Mine, Somerset, Colorado
February 24, 2004
