Mayo and Associates, LC
~~
~~
~~

Ground-water ages and the SZH and S~sO compositions of surface and in-mine water in
the vicinity of Soldier Creek Mine (Mayo and Associates, 1996a) indicate that in-mine
waters aze from the inactive zone and the surface water aze from the active zone as
defined by Mayo et al. (2003).
3.2 PacifiCorp -Energy West Mines (Wasatch Plateau, Utah)
The PacifiCorp has mined the Hiawatha and Blind Canyon coal seams (Figure 3) in three
mines Deer Creek, Cottonwood, and Trail Mountain. Both Cottonwood and Trail
Mountain have been sealed since 2001 and the Deer Creek mine is active (Semborski,
personal communication, 2004). Inmost locations the Hiawatha Seam lies directly on
the Spring Canyon Member of the Star Point Sandstone. Tn some locations, a 0-15 foot
thick shaley lagoonal deposit is present between the Hiawatha Seam and the top of the
Spring Canyon Member. The Blind Canyon Seam lies approximately 80 feet above the
Hiawatha Seam (Figure 7).
Evaluation of Potential Groundwater Inflows 25
Associated with E Seam Mining,
West Ells Mine, Somerset, Colorado
February 24, 2004
