Mayo and Associates, I,C <br />^ • <br />i~ <br />4. 0 DESCRIPTION OF MINE INFLOWS <br />Groundwater inflows for the Soldier Creek Mine, PacifiCorp Mines, Crandall Canyon <br />Mine, Co-Op Mine, Skyline Mine and West Elk Mine are summarized below. Soldier <br />Creek Mine is in the Book Cliffs, West Elk is in the Somerset Coal Field and the other <br />mines aze in the Wasatch Plateau. The data and descriptions presented here are from <br />public domain documents. <br />3.1 Soldier Creek Mine (Book Cliffs, Utah) <br />Coal was mined from both the Rock Canyon and Sunnyside Seams (Figure 3) by means <br />of continuous mining methods. The mined portion of the Sunnyside Seam is associated <br />but not in contact with the Sunnyside Member of the Staz Point Sandstone. The Rock <br />Canyon Seam is located in a 150-foot thick layer of Blackhawk Formation between the <br />Sunnyside and Kenilworth tongues of the Staz Point Sandstone. In the mine azea the <br />members of the Star Point Sandstone have a cumulative maximum thickness of 230 feet. <br />Ground water entered the mine through three pathways (Mayo and Associates, 1996a): <br />1) roof inflows from sandstone channels in the Blackhawk Formation, <br />2) floor seeps, presumably from the Kenilworth Member of the Staz Point <br />Sandstone, and <br />3) fault-related damage zones. <br />~~ <br />s <br />Mine personnel estimated that long-term mine inflows were as follows: roof drips ~ 80%, <br />floor seeps ~ 5%, and fault damage zone fracture flow X15% (Spilhnan, 1995, 2004, <br />personal communicafion,).
