• The ptt should decrease heads in the aquifer near tt and if tt changes the flow direction, tt should be from
the well toward the pit, not toward well GA-1. The increase in iron concentration in other wells has shown
a significant fluctuation also, and therefore this variation is probably natural.
Concentrations in wells GA-3 (Q and R aquifer) and G&5 (H and I aquifer) have not demonstrated
significant changes. The TDS concentration in well G&5, an H and I aquifer well, has decreased slightly
since the start of mining.
The sulfate and TDS concentrations in the Twentymile Sandstone well, GD-1, have decreased slightly.
The remainder of the constttuents have been similar to baseline results.
The GE wells are located in the northwest part of the Trapper Mine permit area (see Map M52 for
location). Groundwater in the area of both the Ashmore and Dertinger Ptts could flow toward the GE
sttes. Very high concentrations of iron have been observed in well GE-1 (Q and R aquifer) and the
values (120 mg/I on 7/14/80) have steadiy increased since the start of mining. A ma>amum value of 14.
mg/l was observed prior to mining. The Q and R coal seams are mined in the Dertinger Ptt and were
mined in the now inactive Cott Pit. The old Empire Energy Ptt is also located in this area. Some of the
iron concentration increase could be a natural variation, but tt is doubtful the total Increase is attributable
to natural fluctuations. Some increase in manganese has been observed in Well GE-1, while sulfate
concentrations have fluctuated.
Increases in copper and lead concentrations have been observed in well GE-2. This well is cempleted in
the H and I aquifer, which the Ashmore Pit is mining. Manganese and sulfate concentrations
de strafed a slight increase. Monttoring of well GE-3, which is completed in the F coal seam nd the
sandstone be o as shown some increase in lead. The F coal seam has not been penetrated by any o
• e pits. The sulfate and TDS concentrations in this well have decreased.

4-233
P~-~I
MAY 1 3 1998
