Doc Date:1 211 112 0 0 1 III I II I II I II IIII III
sss
_ 5 / E • 2.4 V&GETATION INVENTORY
2.4.1 9DDR4ARY AND CONCLU3ION3
The information contained in this report is the result of a vegetation
inventory conducted during the summer of 1979. The purpose of this work is to
enable P6M to comply with the requirements of the permanent regulatory program
of the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 promulgated 13 March
1979 for vegetation baseline data and for evaluation of revegetation. This
survey was performed by the Bureau of Land Management guidelines.
Eight main vegetation mapping units (Exhibit 2.4-1) were recognized
within the permit boundary: 1) Sagebrush/Snowberry (A2); 2) Mountain Shrub (D2
and D3); 30 Aspen Woodland (E); 4) willow/Redtop (G); 5) Disturbed Land (I);
6) Subirrigated Shrubland (J); 7) Mined Land (K); 8) Degenerate Smooth Biome
(e2) .
The Sagebrush/Snowberry and Mountain Shrub vegetation units will be
extensively affected by the mining process, and these units were intensively
sampled for cover, productivity, and stem density. The Willow/Redtop
vegetation unit was sampled for cover and productivity, but not stem density,
due to the small amount of this vegetation type to be affected by mining
activities. The Disturbed Land unit includes those areas of existing
disturbed land ancillary to mining in the area. The unit was not sampled.
The Subirrigated Shrubland unit was sampled for cover, productivity, and stem
density, even though, as in the case of the Aspen woodland unit, only a small
portion (less than two acres) will be affected by mining. A limited amount of
cover and productivity data were collected for the Mined Land unit, These
data are presented in the Revegetatyon Section of the permit application. The
Degenerate Smooth Hrome unit will not be affected by mining, and this unit was
not sampled.
Other vegetation units which were mapped in the vicinity of the permit
~ boundary (Exhibit 2.4-1) but which did not occur within the permit boundary
include Terrace Sagebrush (H2), Chicken Sagebrush (C), and Cultivated Land
(H). These areas were mapped during this survey because of the potential for
an underground mine to be developed on the west side of Trout Creek. However,
it does not appear that an underground mine will be developed at any time in
the foreseeable future.
2.4-1 November 9,1990
