1
1 EXHIBIT E
' Reclamation Plan
Swallow
' Upon completion of mining operations a corridor will exist on
' a grade approximately 50' below the surrounding grade and bordered
to the north and south by highwalls . The tuff overlying the clay
' mineral will be back graded and used to contour the base of the highwalls
' \ and mitigate the sharpness and angularity of the highwalls. This will be
done only minimally however as the low grade perlite, while not economically
recoverable, makes an excellent sybstrate for the germination and propa-
gation of vegetation. In order to minimize erosion and siltation during
' reclamation, slopes greater than 2:1 will be avoided where possible.
Stockpiled topsoil will then be regraded to an average depth of 8 inches
over the pit site and haul roads , then furrowed and broadcast seeded at
' a rate of 80 seeds/sq. ft. with native grass species] to approximate the
prior existing vegetational species diversity and densities (see table 1 ) .
Root-balled stock nursery tree species native to the mine site (see table 1 )
will be planted in approximate ratios that existed prior to mining at a
`rate of 50 seedlings/acre.
' Based on field surveys of undisturbed portions of the lease area
adjacent to the mine, it is anticipated that a seeding mixture of 40%
1 Blue Grama, 20% Legume species and , 40% Wheatgrass species will be used .
Other native grass species present on the site are not commercially available
as seed. Should data become available indicating edaphic conditions more
appropriate for other species of native grasses , modifications of species
' types and ratios in the seeding mixture may be implemented.
