CULTURAL RESOURCE STUDY OF THE 1989
REVISED PEIUIIT AREA AND ALITACENT VICINITIES
•
Preface
Kathleen G. Welt
Colorado t^kstrnoreland Inc. retained the services of Centuries Research Inc.
(CRI) in June, 1984, to conduct a survey of cultural resources within the
revised perniit and adjacent areas, as recommended in a Class I cultural
resource study canpleted by CRI in h1ay, 1984. A total of 15 sites were
located within the permit area in this study. None of these sites would be
impacted by direct surface distyrbance (i.e, excavation, construction,
etc.). 'I7~ough the O~wan Mine trestles (5DT92) are located near the present
Orchard Valley Kline facilities, CWI will avoid disturbing this site. 'chose
sites located within the permit area with B00' or less of overburden may be
• impacted by subsidence. A conservative overburden limit of 1,000' was
chosen for this shidy. Four sites are located within the permit area with
1,000' or less of overburden, but require further research or testing to
determine their eligibility to the National Register. CWI believes though,
that these sites should require ro further study.
•
