Long
Division Director
RE: Monument View Gravel Pit, File No. M-2000-032, Third Adequacy Review and Decision
Date Extension
Dear Mr. Austin:
Per your verbal request for extension, on June 20, 2000,.the Division has extended the decision
due date for the Monument View Gravel Pit application to 5:00 P.M. on July 22, 2000.
The Division has reviewed your response to the Monument View Gravel Pit permit application
second adequacy review. The Division cannot approve the application until the comments, listed
below, have been adequately addressed. Please respond by 1:00 P.M. on June 22, 2000, so the
decision due date set for 5:00 P.M. June 22, 2000 can be met. Please be aware, if your third
adequacy review response, or a written request for extension of the decision due date is not
received, by the Division, by 1 :00 P.M. on June 22, 2000, this application may be denied.
ADEQUACY REVIEW COMMENTS
Please revise the amount of fill material for the pit backfill to account for filling all of the three
acre pit, at an average depth of 27 feet. This assumes the back slope of the pit is graded to
3:1 down into the pit. The overburden preceding the pit cannot be slated for use in backfilling
the pit, in a permit revocation scenario, because this overburden would not be removed when
conducting reclamation of the terminated operation. Please ensure all appVicable text and map
exhibits are appropriately revised.
2. The text indicates bonding for revegetation of all 32 acres of the site, but also specifies that
topsoil placement and revegetation will take place when no more than ten acres is backfilled.
Please clarify. Additionally, please be aware that topsoil should only be replaced on an area
that is scheduled for revegetation application immediately after the topsoil is replaced.
If you need additional information, contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Durango
Field Office, 701 Camino Del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, phone 970-247-5062.
Since
Steve S.
