Banta.
Division Director
The following items must be addressed by the applicant in order to satisfy the
applicable requirements of C.R.S. 34-32-101 et seg• and the Mineral Rules and
Regulations of the Mined Land Reclamation Board:
1. Please describe the status of the existing 6.25 acre pit as shown in the
Reclamation Plan Map.
2. Please characterize the gravel deposit to be mined and the largest
dimensions of the pit expected. Also, please describe whether the
413-5 permitted acres will be mined in separate phases or whether one
large pit will be created.
3. The plant rooting depth has been defined as 60 inches. Please commit to
salvaging 24-36 inches of topsoil. Replacement of only 12 inches of
topsoil does not appear to be adequate for reclamation.
4. Salvaged topsoil that is stockpiled for more than 12 months should be
seeded with a grass species such as crested wheatgrass, intermediate
wheatgrass, pubescent wheatgrass, or sorghum at a rate of 10-15 lbs./acre
pure live seed. Please commit to this practice.
5. The reclamation plan specifies that a cover crop will be seeded one year
prior to seeding rangeland and pastureland species. Please specify the
cover crop application rate and the species to be used (sorghum, wheat,
oats, barley, or rye).
6. The seed mix provided in the reclamation plan includes three grasses:
blue grams, sideoats grams, and little bluestem. In order to provide a
more diversified seed mix for rangeland and pastureland use please modify
the current seed mix and include yellow clover, Ladak alfalfa, or
"_utana" titer milkvetch, and two of the following grasses: switchgrass,
indian ricegrass, western wheatgrass, yellow indian grass, or buffalo
g~ass.
~~,~ ~~'
STA'1'~ OF COLORADO
