k

EXf-IIBIT E
C~
fYDROLOGY DESC;RIPrION
The Blue Flame Coal Kline operation has never impacted
groundwater systems and its impact on the surface hydrology is moderate.
ttiture opeidtions in the uppper menefee coal seam are not expected to
disrupt aquifers, streams, watersystems, or the small watershed (upslope
areas of the mine site). Hydrologic data obtained from the existing
mine workings, core drill holes in the mine plan area, and other
researoh studies show that the mining operation has had only a mild
impact on water sources of Hay Gulch.
The mining bench or permit area is located in the upper
• reaches of the Hay Gulch drainage systgn. All wells, diversion ditches,
s~Yfimentation ponds, water conveyances and storage, and the surface
facilities are shown on hlap Lr-1, the mine surface drainage map.
SURFACE HYDROLOGY
!gap Lrl shows the runoff flows in the mine plan area and the
fx~nrdt az•ea. P.]ost of the surface runoff from the upslope areas (above
the fx?imit area) finds its way into the two gullies on the east and west
side of the drainage system. From the gullies, it is muted via open
channels and burriecf culvert pipe to the 1{ay Gulch meadow north of the
mine site.
•
