• Coal Geology
Two coals seams are exposed on the property of which only tt~e
upper seam iras been developed. The upper warn has a thicluress varying
between Eifi - 74 inches. The coal seen is overlain by a few inches of
interbedded sandstone and coal which are overlain in turn by a massive
sandstone which stands well.
The lower seam is not exposed.
Bedding at the property dips 3° in a south-srouthwesterly
direction.
Coal C~ualit~
The coal of tare Blue Flame Coal Aline is low astr, low sulfur,
bitwninous coal with a 1.0 free swelling index. Gaskill, of ttre Conservation Division of
the U.~.G.S. reported no unusual geologic hazards are known that might
a~vers~~ly effect mining in the upper lfenefee coal seam. He noted that
ground water tables were below the seam (See Exhibit E). hlr. Gaskill's
report was prepared in February, 1980.
- 7 -
•
