from alluvial aquifer drawdown to produce an approximate constituent concentration
within the dewatering flows. These concentrations are presented in Attachment N with
Drinking Water Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) and Colorado Standards and
Methodologies for Surface Water. Attachment N illustrates that the calculated
concentrations of constituents in dewatering flows do not exceed any applicable
standards. Therefore, it is not anticipated that constituents originating at the RMA will
impact the proposed wetland areas at the site or, by virtue of the proposed lined storage
structure, potential uses of the water stored in the lined reservoir.
Comment 24. Indicate the status of the NPDES permit required from Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment (CDPHE).
• Dewatering flows will be routed to previously permitted lands west of Old Brighton Road
where they will be discharged under an existing CDPS permit. Part II-4-1 of the existing
CDPS permit will require that the Water Quality Control Division (WQCD) be notified
of the added flow. If the WQCD confirms a potential for DIMP in the discharge, the
permit certification will be amended to require monitoring for DIMP in the discharge.
Should the monitoring suggest to the WQCD that a permit limitation is required, the
CDPS permit will be amended.
Responses to Comments Received from Dr. Harry Posey, April 11, 2000
Comment 1. Identify the current stratigraphic and aerial distribution of contaminants from the
RMA.
• Please see response to Tom Schreiner Comment 20.
Comment 2. Provide a list of local contaminants from the RMA along with their regulatory
limits for drinking water, agricultural, and surface water uses.
• Please see response to Tom Schreiner Comment 20 and Attachment L and Attachment M.
Comment 3. Provide a hydrostratigraphic report showing what effects that pumping from the pit
area will have on local ground water, and the likelihood there is of drawing contaminants into the
pit or into the discharge water.
• Please see response to Tom Schreiner Comment 23 and Attachment N. Additional
hydrostratigraphic information in response to this comment is also contained in
Attachment P.
Responses to Comments Received from Dr. Harry Posey, Apri121, 2000
Recommendation 1. Determine current contaminant levels of DIMP and tetrachloroethene
(TCLEE) in and around (within''/e mile) T2S, R67W, Section 10.
• Please see response to Tom Schreiner Comment 20 and Attachment L.
Page 9
