The States of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming and the Fish_ and Wildlife <br />Service developed interim procedures for stocking nonnative fish in lakes <br />and reservoirs in the Upper Colorado River Basin. The procedures, which <br />currently are being evaluated, will ensure that all stocking of nonnative <br />fish in the Upper Colorado River Basin is consistent with recovery of <br />endangered fish. <br />13. Genetics Management Guidelines and the Coordinated Hatchery Facility Plan <br />were finalized. The Genetics Management Guidelines document is a <br />conceptual document that provides the rationale, genetics concepts, and <br />genetic risks to be considered in genetics management planning and <br />implementation. The Coordinated Hatchery Facility Plan defines <br />facilities required to meet propagation needs, identifies fish needs that <br />can be met by existing facilities, discusses the need for additional <br />facilities or new construction, and estimates costs for construction and <br />operation of these facilities. <br />14. A project was initiated to identify interim management objectives for the <br />endangered fish. This project will develop biologically based parameters <br />and a modeling approach for describing the status and recovery goals of <br />the endangered fishes in the Upper Colorado River Basin. <br />15. A study of distribution and movements of Colorado squawfish and their <br />seasonal habitat use in the White River was completed. Information from <br />this study will be used to develop a work plan for instream flow studies <br />on the White River. <br />16. A summary report describing the results of the first 7 years of the <br />Interagency Standardized Monitoring Program was produced. <br />17. An initiative was begun to provide long-term funding for the Recovery <br />Program. <br />18. The Fish and Wildlife Service finalized the designation of critical <br />habitat for the endangered fishes on March 20, 1994. The Recovery <br />.Program modified the Recovery Action Plan to address this critical <br />habitat designation. <br /> <br />
