r~
U
•
2. Alternate Method: Coal will be drilled and shot using the
smallest practical explosive charge and loaded into highway
trucks faith a loader or backhoe.
Haulage roads for the coal trucks ~aill be watered and maintained to
minimize dust and maintain production speeds.
An anticipated equipment fleet to be used in The Rockcastle
Company's mining plan is as follows:
3 Dozers 4-7 Rubber-tired Scrapers 1 Overburden Drill
1 Motor Patrol 1 lJater 'flagon 4 End Dump Trucks*
1 Hydraulic 8ackhoe 1-2 Rubber-tired Loaders* 1 Blast Hole Drill
1 Angering Machine
As stated in Section 2.05.3, production will vary with coal market
conditions. Total production of coal for the life of the operation
will be 1.8 million tons. An average annual rate of production is
projected to be 200,000 tons.
2.05.3(2) Operation Description
A narrative describing the strip operation for Pit Q is presented
in 2.0.3(1) above. The mining sequence has been discussed in 2.05.3
above. The mining Plan f4ap, prepared in accordance with Section 2.10,
shows the areas of disturbance. Total disturbances (covered by this
permit application) will be 336.9 acres as shown in Table 1.
2.05.3(3) dine Facilities
Excluding haul roads, there are four areas that can be described
as mine facilities: the office trailer, the fuel storage area, the
explosives storage area, and the shop area.
The general location of the fuel storage area is shown on the Mining
Plan Map. This area has a berm surrounding it for spill prevention,
cleanup and control, and for sediment control for the small area it
occupies. The proposed earthwork around the fuel storage tank is shown
on Figure 1. The bermed area has a volume 2.4 times greater than the
anticipated volume of the fuel storage tank (20,000 gallons). The
safety berm will be constructed of compacted, fine grained materials,
which will prevent spilled fuel from entering the hydrologic system.
The Shop area and Explosives Storage area are shown on the Mining Plan
Map. The office trailer is shown on the aerial photographs. The fuel
storage tank, the office trailer, the shop and the explosives storage
magazine will be removed and the areas ripped, regraded and planted at
the end of the mine life.
* Alternate equipment. Usage dependent upon job site conditions.
• 12/87 III-4 d5
