L.~PJD R~CL-.r;ir'-,-~
Dear Sir:
I understand that you are considering applications for mining
permits submitted by the Castle Concrete Company to extend their
quarrying operations along the Front Range.
As a concerned resident of Colorado Springs, I would like to ask
you to closely examine Castle Concrete's ability to grade the quarry
land to create a final topography appropriate to final land use and
to revegetate with a long-lasting cover. Before Castle Concrete is
allowed to expand their current quarrying operations, I would hope
that they be required to revegetate the land that has already been
mined. To date, I have seen no attempt on the part of Castle Con-
crete to restore this land. The ecological impact this Company
is causing to our environment is frightening.
I would also like to ask that the hearings on these applications by
Castle Concrete be held in Colorado Springs. The residents of this
city will be affected the most by your decision. I cannot begin to
imagine what our front range will look like in the year 2032 if these
last years of mining by Castle Concrete are an indication
Sinc ely,
CAROL J./ IEDEN
x.211
