Pe rwt i-t- ~; ~~
J ae~.,t4. ~6J~gotrv-v~
James C. and Rita I, bean
13360 6200 Road
Montrose, Colorado 81401
July 20, 2003
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RECEIVED
JUL 2 4 2003 /
Oi~ision of Minerals and Geology
Dear Sir orMadam: /
We are writing in reference to the permit application for the Haldorson Sand and Gravel Mine, file
_ _ number M-2003-037./This is proposed in the county of Montrose North West of the town of Montrose
_ - at the intersedion~of 6175 Road and West LaSalle Road. We would like tt to be known that we strongly
oppose tt.
My wife and 1 have lived and fanned and raised our five children at our current address for the last 30
years, and lt is immediatey adjacent to the East boundary of the proposed application. We would like
to be on record as opposing this application due to the following, but not limited to the following
reasons.
The total lads of regard in the application for the water rights and many other hydrologic
concerns at this location, both historical and future. Please consider prior to permitting.
We would request that test results be made public concerning the exisfing gravel deposit,
topsoil figures and cite the study that has determined that no ground water will be encountered
before a permit is granted.
The overwhelming acreage in the application, and the lack of any demonstrated need before
any permit is given.
Grave concerns about the reclamation to cropland and its future operation as such.
The applicant should be made to bare the burden of studies that show information concerning
water and air quality prior to, during and after mining before a permit is granted.
Establish proper responsible enforcement of the qualities listed priorto a permlt issuance.
Please consider the implications of the fad that this could possibly add up to cumulative gravel
acreage in the immediate area of approximately 300 to 400 acres more or less if this permit is
granted. Considering the zoning implications of this presently general agriculture and rural
residential area of approximately 600 households within a mile becoming afull-blown industrial
orworse a heavy industrial area.
Please scrutinize the reclamation plan and consider the engineering of the proposal to turn this man
made hole in the ground, to reclaimed cropland. And be aware the Shavano Soil Conservation district
is not convinced this can or should be done.
Sincerely, ?
~J~s--
J " es G. and Rita L Bean
