i•
•
•
The entire coal loadout facility is drained by
perimeter ditches to two sedimentation ponds. The water discharge
from these ponds is governed by rigorous stipulations of the
discharge permit points Nos. 004 and 005.
o The other surface water drainages, the Fire Mountain
Canal and the Stewart Ditch, are not impacted by the coal loadout
facility. The Fire Mountain Canal is located topographically well
above the facility and the Stewart Ditch is on the other side
of the North Fork Gunnison River.
o The diversion of a small drainage near the silos
through a concrete channel, culvert and ditches and a
convergence with the Farmers Ditch were performed to prevent any
potential for flow losses or contamination.
It can be concluded that from the point of view of surface
water hydrology, there are no identifiable impacts on the
essential hydrologic functions caused by the coal loadout
facility.
5.2 IMPACTS ON GROUND WATER
The ground water present in the alluvial sediments in the
study area is highly affected by intensive irrigation of the
orchards. It is obvious from the measurements in the installed
monitoring wells that during the irrigation season (April through
October) the water table and the water quality in the alluvial
aquifer are impacted.
16
GEO-HYDRO CONSULTING, ING.
