iii iiiii~iiiii~~ iii <br />sss <br />• ~,~E; INTRODUCTION <br />Doc Date:12/11/2001 <br />The Colorado Yampa Coal Company (CYCC) is hereby submitting a <br />complete permit application for the proposed surface coal mining <br />operations and ongoing reclamation activities at Energy Mine No. 3. <br />Reclamation of previously disturbed tracts is currently being conducted <br />under the authority of the amended and previously approved Permit 76-16. <br />CYCC has prepared this permit application with the intention of <br />removing the operations proposed herein from the requirements of Permit <br />No. 76-16. However, the information presented in this permit application <br />was gleaned from materials formerly submitted in connection with Permit <br />No. 76-16. The information acquired from previous submittals has been <br />• updated to reflect the best technology currently available. CYCC is <br />confident that the mining and reclamation strategies presented in this <br />application are capable of preventing or mitigating environmental damage <br />at Energy Mine No. 3. <br />Geographic Setting <br />Energy Mine No. 3 is located approximately ten miles due southwest <br />of Steamboat Springs, Colorado at an elevation of about 6,800 feet above <br />sea level. County Road 9k33 provides direct access to the mine site from <br />Steamboat Springs. <br />. The area to be mined is situated on a hillside south of County Road <br />dk33 near the confluence of Foidel and Middle Creeks. Coal excavated from <br />
