MINE INFLOW STUDY
Purpose: To meet compliance of Stipulation Number 5 under our proposed decision
and findinys of compliance,
1. An annual mine inflow survey (i,e, water quality - field testing of pH,
electro conductivity, and temperature; water quantity - inflow and outflow)
shall be performed during June of each year, This will he performed at all
areas within the mine with measureable flow.
2, A map of mine inflow will indicate whether the inflow source is from a
fault, fracture, roof, rib or floor, The various areas of mine inflow will
be a numher subscripted on the map which is referenced to a table. This ta-
ble will detail the physical location within the mine, date of sampling,
quantity of inflow, quality of inflow, and any additional comments.
3. If mine outflow becomes excessive, the monitoring of mine inflow will be
similar to existing surface monitoring (monthly field testing, quarterly lab
testing, etc,)
A, Inflow Quantity surveys shall be performed in the following manner:
1. Roof inflow shall be measured by a calibrated container over a cer-
tain time interval depending on the amount of inflow.
2, Floor and rib inflow shall he determined ny the use of a V-notch
weir.
3. Some areas might not permit measurement by the preceeding methods,
such as the area in the North intakes. If water does not permit ac-
cessibility, then a pond or dam type measurement will he performed,
The assumption with this method will be that seepage has not occur-
red ,
R, Inflow quality shall be performed as follows:
1. Field parameters of pH, electroconductivity, and temperature will be
analyzed,
2. This data will be recorded on the appropriate tables,
3, Periodic review of data will be completed to confirm theoretical
calculations.
4, A flow meter will be installed in the mine outflow line which is presently
located in the beltline entry. The flow meter presently installed in the
mine inflow line from the surface tank will be maintained and quantities re-
corded, These two meters, along with the meter installed in the 100,n00
gallon tank for surface use, will he read once a month on the same day of
the month, This data will be recorded on the appropriate tahle,
5. If a new area of unusual significant inflow develops within the mine, that
area will be monitored as soon as possible not to exceed 72 hours. After
the initial monitoring, it will be sequenced with the existing monitoring,
f,lose contact with underground personnel will be maintained to provide in-
formation indicating new areas of inflow,
