1
r
1

1
Prediction of the post mining hydrologic conditions was
based on calculations of the time necessary to flood the Orchard
Valley mine and on information obtained from the flooded Farmer's
mine. It was estimated that natural flooding after mine
abandonment would be very slow. However, the mine flooding, or
flooding of particular mine sectors, could be accelerated by
using other water resources available to CWI (from the Stevens
Gulch well field) or by selective flooding of certain mine
sectors.
It is believed that during the Orchard Valley mine life
under the current permit to mine, no water will be discharged out
of the mine.
Water quality in the flooded mine will be similar to the
quality of water flowing into the mine. Over a long period of
time it is assumed that water in the flooded mine will have a
slight increase in sulfate concentrations and in total dissolved
solids.
,e ,r •
May 31, 1985
~~~ ~~, ~..i ~ l,t.,,o~
Vladimir Straskraba
Principal Hydrologist
14 inuen cF:~~ ci~~si cnvr,
