<br />APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR <br />COAL MINING IN COLORADO <br />BLUE FLAME COAL COMPANY, INC. P.O. Box 1425, Durango, Colorado 81301, <br />(303) 247-0058 has filed, with the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division, <br />an application for a permit to conduct coal mining under provisions of the <br />Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act of 1979. The legal description <br />of the proposed mine is as follows: <br />Property described as the West 400 feet of the Northeast Quarter of the <br />Northeast Quarter (NEl/4 NEl/4) and in and under the Northwest Quarter <br />of the Northeast Quarter (NWl/4 NEl/4) of Section Thirty-one (31), <br />Township Thirty-five (35) North Range Eleven (1) West, N.M.P.M. <br />together with the right to use the private road now existing over and <br />across the Northwest Quarter of the Northwest Quarter (NWl/4 NWl/4) of <br />SEction Thirty-two (32) and the North Half of the Northeast Quarter <br />(Nl/2 NE1/4) of Section Thirty-one (31) and the Southwest Quarter of <br />the Southeast Quarter (SW1/4 SEl/4) of Section Thirty (30), all in <br />Township Thirty-five (35) North, Range Eleven (1) West, N.M.P.M. to the <br />public highway located in Hay Gulch. <br />The surface of the proposed permit area is owned by Lawrence Huntington and <br />the Ute Mountain Ute Indian Tribe. The proposed date of commencement of the <br />operation is September 1, 1984. The description below indicates the town, <br />water bodies, local landmarks and routes necessary to readily identify the <br />proposed permit area. The proposed post-mining use of the affected land is <br />livestock grazing. <br />The mine site may be reached by heading south from Hesperus on State <br />Highway 140 (about 3.4 miles) to the junction of La Plata County Road <br />120. Follow the County Road West for 5.6 miles in Hay Gulch. At that <br />point, an unpaved road (access road) leads southernly for about 1200 <br />feet putting one at the Blue Flame Coal Mine site. USGS Hesperus, <br />Colorado quadrangle map contains the described area of the proposed <br />operation. <br />A copy of the application is available for public inspection at the La Plata <br />County Courthouse 1060 2nd Avenue, Durango, Colorado 81301. Written <br />comments, objections, or requests for an informal conference on the <br />application may be submitted to, and additional information obtained from the <br />Mined Land Reclamation Division, Room 423, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, <br />Colorado 80203 (303) 866-3567.
