~, 1 - • • <br />PRELIt97NARY ADEOUA(.'Y f?EVIEW <br />Grand Mesa Coal Company - Rerl Canyon Mine <br />Mau 8. 1981 <br />2.03 Legal and Financial Requirements <br />I. Rule 2.03.4(4) requires a statement of any current or previously held <br />coal mining permits. Since Crand Mesa currently bolds a permit, it should <br />be indicated along with any prior permits. <br />2.09.3 General Requirements: Site Description and Land Use <br />Information <br />I. Rule 2. 04.3(2)(a) requires a narrative of the existing land uses. A <br />more detailed description should be provided relative to the information <br />provided on the Land use map. The applicant should indicate whether areas <br />designated as farmland are dryland or irrigated and specify what crops are <br />grown. It i5 assumed that portions of the permit area not designated as <br />farmland or pastureland are rangeland. A brief discussion regarding <br />the seasonal use of the area by wildlife and Livestock (if any) should be <br />provided. <br />2. Rule 2.09.3(2)(b) requires an estimate of the productivity of those <br />areas affected or to be affected by surface operations before any mining. <br />SCS range site productivity in formation would be sufficient. <br />2.04.9 Cultural Resources Information <br />Appropriate sections have been forwarded to the State historical Preservation <br />Office. <br />2.09.6 Geology Description <br />1. The nature of the coal and interburden of the seams to he mined should <br />be discussed in further detail. The Local fracturing, cleating, and the <br />presence of stringers should be mentioned in the plan. A general geologic <br />description of the Iles formation of the Mesa Verde Group should be provided. <br />2. Dri1Z core data has been submitted for only one test bole (NCE-80-3C). <br />Lithologic Logs for all drill holes used in the preparation of the geologic <br />cross-sections should be submitted with the plan. <br />3. Additional cross-sections, as required by 2.09.6(2)(a)(.ii) arc needed <br />to characCerize Che geology of the entire permit .arch. Arc.~s of potential. <br />influence to the alluvial aquifers should be dcl.incated wiCh East-West <br />cross-sections. The portion of the mine in Sections 12 and 13 should be <br />covered with a North-South cross-section. <br />4. A listing of reserves for the D seam within coal Lease D-036906, <br />including in-place, minable and recoverable reserves should be provided. <br />A thickness isopach map of the D seam is also requested. <br />
