Mr. Michael S. Savage Page Eight
June 28, 1985
Post-Mining Land Use
The applicant should provide a copy of the comments received from the
surface owners regarding the post-mining land use. ~1
Response: Arness/McGriffin Coal Company is the legal and equitable ~~
owner of the only area where surface disturbance related to the
proposed underground mining will occur. A letter from Mr. Sam Arness,
President of Arness/McGriffin Coal Company addressing the proposed O \
post-mining land use is presented as Attachment 3. ,~, 1
Reclamation Plan
1. The applicant should restore the drainage immediately northwest
of the proposed shop area in the post-mining topography.
Response: Peerless has revised the post-mining topography to
restore the drainage immediately northwest of the proposed shop
area. The revised topography is shown on the Revised Postmining
Topography Map (Map 14); revised copies of this map are provided
for inclusion in the permit application.
2. The applicant should place ditches and berms around the soil
medium stockpiles in order to_prevent erosion from u sp lope.
Response: Peerless will place ditches and berms around the soil
medium stockpiles to prevent erosion from upslope.
In order to clarify resource recovery, the applicant should
Curtner aiscuss the mining metnoo so as to insure tnat ~-seam
ne.
Response: Peerless has requested a five (5) year permit term as
stated on page 2.05-1 of the permit application. The mining and
reclamation plan identifies all mining within the A Coal Seam;
however, Peerless will submit information regarding actual mining
plans for future five (5) year permits upon permit renewal.
During the first five (5) year period, Peerless does not plan to
extract any pillars within the A Coal Seam. As a result, no
disturbance should occur to the C Coal Seam, which is located
above the A Coal Seam. During subsequent future permit updates,
Peerless will undoubtedly show mining in the C Coal Seam such
that maximum resource recovery of the coal reserves in the permit
area can be achieved. Conceptually, mining in the C Coal Seam
will occur under the same basic layout as shown on the Mine Plan
Map (Map 11).
