Richard Dougherty

- 3-
July 13, 1981
8. Please clarify whether any water impoundments are to be built for storage
of water from Walker ditch and/or clarify what the IJalker ditch water will be
used for.
For general information, will any haul roads be constructed with embankment fill
on a natural slope in excess of 20 e? It is unclear from Exhibit I exactly what
the position of the road along the !Jest side of the pit with respect to the natural
topography will be. It would be beneficial to provide a general statement about
characteristics of the road throughout the life of the mine (including the ~ •
back fill operation).
Our staff has reviewed the bonding calculations submitted and we are recommending
some revisions. These revisions will be explained in a separate letter. One
major omission is that no information has been submitted for the loadout. This
area must be bonded under this permit.
With respect to geology, there is a minor issue. The text mentions the existence
of a fault zone along Rayden Gulch road. What is the location of this fault zone
with respect to the mine?
Zt is possible that we will require more explanation with respect to the effect on
the hydrologic balance depending on the results of the geochemical analyses. Also,
other information may be necessary depending on the nature of the responses not
yet received by the Division. Should any deficiencies be identified, N-G will
be notified in as timely a manner as possible. The hydrology portion of your
application is being submitted to the State Engineer with the Division of Water
Resources for review and recommendations.
,We have attempted in this review to identify all of the deficiencies which must
be rectified before the Division can make a decision to issue a permit. Your
desire to provide a complete and adequate application is recognized and greatly
appreciated.
If you have any further questions, please contact Fred Banta or myself.
Sincerely,
~~ ~.

Brian E. Munson
Reclamation Specialist
BEM/mmt
cc: Cass Legal
