i ~ III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
999
Sunflower
E Suite 226
nergy 770 Gwni Sh6el
Da^ver. Colo~otlo 80203
Corporation 303/837-1242
November 18, 1977
Mr. Dean Massey
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation
1313 Sherman St. Room 723
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Dean;
Sunflower Energy Corporation respectfully files
the following technical revision:
In the process of excavating the water storage
reservoir which will satisfy our dust suppression require-
ments, Sunflower has exposed several feet of gravel lying
beneath an average overburden coverage of 12 to 2 feet.
Removal of the gravel is necessary to obtain the desired
reservoir depth and would not affect additional acreage
or future reclamation as the area will remain a reservoir.
The Delta County Commissioners have recommended
that the removed material be placed on the adjacent county
road. This action would eliminate the necessity of develop-
ing anew pit and/or trucking the necessary 15,000 cubin
yards for road improvement through the town of Paonia,
Colorado.
Assuming an average of 3000 lbs. per cubic
yard of gravel and 2000 lbs. per cubic yard of overburden,
the total tonnage extracted during the reservoir development
will total 27,500 tons. This figure, when added to the other
portal and road development tonnage is comfortably below
the calendar year limit of 70,000 tons.
In the event that any crushing takes place,
Sunflower will amend it's Fugitive Dust Permit to comply
with air quality standards. Affected area is not increased
nor is reclamation affected as the 3:1 slope will be main-
tained on the perimeter of the reservoir area.
Re~ ly yours,
Samuel J. Hoffmann
SJH/kd
