Dept. o? ^!aiural Reso~~rcer
As a result of the meetings with your company on November 11,
1982, and December 2, 1982, and subsequent review of your
proposals, our response to your pit operations as it affects
S.H. 151 is as follows:
A. The earth berm next to the roadway, which is
supposed to protect a motorist from driving off
into your pit, is to be built up immediately and
all gaps closed. The bernt should be at least 15
feet high. Acceptable guardrail may be used in
lieu of building up the berm.
B. Any loose rock on the sides of the cut slope
northeast of your high wall is to be removed and
a suitable rock catchment is to be built next to
the highway.
C. We ask that the present high wall be backfilled
within three months. Prior to any new pit exca-
vations next to the highway, we ask that your
plan of operations be submitted for review. The
plan must contain a geotechnical report deter-
mining whether continued support of the highway
can be maintained. A timetable for excavating
and subsequent backfilling must be included.
D. Guardrail of a Colorado Department of Highway
approved type will be provided by you for any
additional excavations near the highway.
E. We do not want the top of any excavation wall to
be within 100 feet of the centerline of the
highway.
F. Your proposal to auger under the highway is not
acceptable. Not only will the angering cause
certain subsidence of the highway, there
