A Cultural Resource Inventory
Of Four Proposed Core Drill Locations
For Anschutz Coal Corporation's Operations
In The White River National Forest
Pitkin County, Colorado
_ by
Steven G. Baker
Centuries Research, Inc.
Montrose, Colorado
ABSTRACT
A detailed archaeological survey of four proposed core drill holes
and access roads has been completed in Sections 22 and 27, Range 89 W,
Township 8 S on behalf of Anschutz Coal Corporation. These locations
are in the White River National Forest south and west of Carbondale,
Pitkin County, Colorado. A search of cultural resource records or the
U.S. Forest Service, the State Historic Preservation Office, and the
National Register of Historic Places produced negative results for the
vicinity of the project area. A detailed archaeological survey also
proved negative in regard to cultural values in the immediate project
impact area. It is subsequently recommended that the specific drill
hole locations and access roads described herein be considered free
and clear of cultural resources.
